Converting a basement or cellar is a popular way of increasing affordable accommodation in your home without incurring the not inconsiderable expense of moving house. When compared to the cost and inconvenience of moving a basement conversion can be a surprisingly inexpensive way of increasing the living or storage space of the property. DWC are specialists in the field of damp proofing and waterproofing underground structures to provide a dry living environment.
We can transform your basement from a damp, musty dead space into a beautiful addition to your home or office, adding value to your property.
Our CSSW trained Surveyors (Certified Surveyor in Structural Waterproofing) will design an effective structural waterproofing system working to the guidelines contained within BS8102, (the Code of Practice for the Protection of Structures Against Water from the Ground)
We work successfully with architects, engineers and developers to form new basement areas in new & existing properties. 10 year guarantees are offered. 20 year guarantees maybe available to satisfy New Home Warranty Schemes subject to maintenance criteria. The long term guarantees issued by DWC can be insured by the GPI (Guarantee Protection Insurance Co. Ltd).
Where tanking is required, i.e. to underground rooms or where lateral penetration of ground water is occurring, DWC will prepare a scheme for tanking together with a quotation for these works. DWC tanking normally carries a ten year guarantee
We are able to offer various tanking systems including multi-coat specialist renders along with cavity drainage membrane systems. DWC are installers of the major suppliers including Vandex, SIKA, Delta, Oldroyd, Isola Platon, NatCem and Fosroc.
Examples of basement waterproofing using a multi render system.
Our senior surveyor Alan Shaw CSRT CSSW was called to a property in Stansted in Essex with a view to advising the homeowners on a basement waterproofing programme leading to its conversion to living accommodation. An extensive project indeed involving structural works, underpinning and excavations.
One of the interesting aspects about this project was that as the building was in a conservation area we had to liaise with the Conservation Department in connection with the proposed works and of course other departments such as the Building Control Department and employ the services of a Structural Engineer.
Also, as the building was end of terrace, we had to carry out a party wall survey and serve the neighbour with a party wall notice. The total budget cost of this project was in excess of 40k.
